APMT Pipavav to expand with $2 billion investment
APM Terminals Pipavav (Gujarat Pipavav Port Limited) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Gujarat Maritime Board to expand Pipavav Port, with an investment of ₹17,000 crore ($2 billion).

The signing took place in Gandhinagar in the presence of Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and Maersk Chair Robert Maersk Uggla.

This MoU forms part of A.P. Moller – Maersk’s February 2025 announcement to invest over $5 billion in Indian ports and maritime infrastructure.

It outlines Pipavav’s proposed expansion plan, which will proceed under a long-term concession agreement with the Gujarat Maritime Board.

Earlier in August 2025, APMT also signed an MoU to explore a $1 billion port investment to support Andhra Pradesh’s port modernisation.

The expansion at Pipavav will significantly enhance the port’s capacity and capabilities, reaffirming its position as one of India’s most efficient, safe, and sustainable ports.

Planned developments include container and liquid cargo handling facilities, expanded storage and rail siding capacity, specialised equipment, deeper waterfront, and strengthened multimodal connectivity via the Dedicated Freight Corridor and the national hinterland.

Strategic partnerships will also deliver world-class handling of liquid, RoRo, and bulk cargo.

Jon Goldner, Chief Executive for APM Terminals Asia & Middle East, said: “This investment plan is not just about expanding Pipavav Port; it is about unlocking new opportunities for Gujarat, India, and global trade. Supporting Prime Minister Modi’s vision, we are building the capacity, resilience, and sustainability needed to serve India’s economy for decades.

“Our goal is to make Pipavav a model of world-class efficiency and green growth while creating lasting prosperity for the local community and strengthening India’s leadership in maritime trade.”

Chief Minister, Bhupendra Patel, added: “We deeply value our long-standing partnership with APM Terminals. Over the past 30 years, Pipavav Port has exemplified public–private collaboration.

“This proposed investment reflects strong confidence in Gujarat’s infrastructure, governance, and policy framework. The expansion will strengthen Gujarat’s position as India’s maritime gateway, create new jobs, and contribute to our vision of a Viksit Gujarat.”

The project is expected to generate around 25,000 direct and indirect jobs, with a strong focus on local employment.

Recently, DP World pledged to invest an additional $5 billion in India to strengthen its integrated supply chain network, which supported both exports and domestic trade.
