A police pursuit ended at the Port of LA yesterday (August 16, 2017) when a man climbed onto a crane following a wild pursuit with police and fell to his death.

Officials confirmed Wednesday night that the man had died after falling from the crane at around 9:20 pm after an hours-long standoff.

Authorities are yet to name the man, who drove around the port in a stolen SUV before abandoning the car, climbing the crane, and removing all his clothing while standing on the boom of crane 87, which towers 160 feet inside the West Basin Shipping Terminal at Berth 100.

Port of Los Angeles evacuated and shut down the terminal shortly after he drove through a security gate.

Authorities pronounced him dead after he either fell or jumped from the crane.
