Pilbara Ports has reported a total throughput of 64.5 million tonnes (Mt) in April 2025, reflecting a slight 1 per cent dip from the same month last year.
The Port of Port Hedland, the region’s key export hub, moved 47.5Mt for the month—including 46.8Mt in iron ore exports—marking a 5 per cent year-on-year decline in overall throughput.
However, imports at the Port of Port Hedland surged 20 per cent compared to April 2024, reaching 216,000 tonnes, signaling increased domestic demand and supply chain activity.
The Port of Dampier handled a total of 14.7 million tonnes (Mt) in April 2025, marking a 4 per cent increase compared to the same month last year.

Imports through the port, however, dropped significantly to 84,000 tonnes — a 50 per cent decline from April 2024 — reflecting shifts in market demand and supply chain dynamics.
Throughput fluctuations are driven by various factors, including changing market conditions, scheduled port maintenance, and evolving operational needs of port users.
Since 1 July 2024, total throughput across all Pilbara Ports has reached 631.6Mt.
