PIL upgrades South West Africa Container Service

Pacific International Lines (PIL) has announced that it is enhancing its flagship South West Africa Container Service (SWS) to meet growing market demands and to ensure more reliable scheduling.

PIL’s SWS will include a weekly direct calling at Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire as part of this enhancement. The enhanced SWS commenced on 9 December 2024 on Kota Sydney departing Xingang, China.

The enhancement follows its earlier upgrade of SWS in April 2024, in which PIL introduced 7,000 TEU vessels to this independent service. This strategic move aims to increase capacity and greater schedule stability.

The enhanced rotation for the SWS service is as follows:

Xingang – Qingdao – Busan – Shanghai – Ningbo – Nansha – Singapore – Tema – Lome – Lagos (Apapa) – Onne – Abidjan – Singapore – Xingang

William Ho, General Manager of Long Haul Trade, Line Management, at PIL, said: “Africa is a key market for PIL.

“Having served the continent since the 1970s, PIL’s strong presence and extensive services now cover close to 30 countries in Africa.

“With our commitment towards ‘Putting Customers First’, we are firm on investing in this region by pushing boundaries and enhancing our service offerings, so that we can deliver more value to our customers.”

Earlier this October, PIL and Shanghai SIPG Energy Service (SSES) completed the inaugural Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) bunkering of PIL’s first LNG-powered container vessel.
