ORBCOMM, a global provider of Machine-to-Machine (M2M) and Internet-of-Things (IoT) solutions has announced that it has launched its next generation solution for remote monitoring and control of refrigerated (reefer) containers.

The CT 3000 series, according to ORBCOMM, will provide uninterrupted visibility of operations for refrigerated containers travelling across land, rail or sea.

It will do so through a Cloud-based analytics platform and information management engine.

Furthermore, it will be able to support built-in and external sensors, cellular connectivity and wireless technologies to deliver actionable data on asset location.

The new series will come in two models – the CT 3100, which can be a temporarily installed to monitor assets during a voyage.

The CT 3000, on the other hand, can be permanently installed on assets for continuous tracking. Both models connect directly to the reefer to enable real-time alerts and two-way control.

This will allow operators to quickly react to problems and remotely adjust temperature and humidity levels to increase efficiency and minimize spoilage.

In addition, operators will be able to eliminate unnecessary moves and improve turn times by leveraging the comprehensive data the reefer will collect.

Speaking about the new series of reefers, Craig Malone, ORBCOMM’s Executive Vice President of Product Development, said: “ORBCOMM continues to lead the industrial IoT in innovation, as we remain committed to developing new feature-rich, cost-effective products that meet the changing demands of our markets.

“ORBCOMM’s new refrigerated container product series utilizes our best-in-class IoT technology to enable intermodal operators to maximize asset utilization and lower operating costs while providing the highest value and service to customers.”
