OOCL Join 20,000 TEU Mega-Ship Club

Hong Kong shipping company OOCL has entered into a contract with Samsung Heavy Industries for the construction of six 20,000 TEU mega-ships at more than US$950m, 70% of which will be financed by other investors, according to gCaptain.

PTI previously reported that CMA CGM had placed a second order for another three 20,000 TEU ships due to its recent profit increase.

Maersk Line has also ordered seven new ships under its $15bn capital investment programme to purchase more ships and equipment in the next five years.

Mitsui O.S.K. Lines recently placed a record-breaking order for four 20,150 TEU box-ships with Samsung Heavy Industries and Imabari Shipbuilding Company will be constructing the ships.
