In a bid to provide more port calls, Hong Kong’s Orient Overseas Container Lines has teamed up with Gold Star Line, Yang Ming and Thailand-based Regional Container Lines (RCL) in order to link Chinese ports to Vietnam, according to IHS Fairplay.
The linking process is set to be completed via two separate loops.
Charlie Chu, Business Executive Vice President of RCL, said: “The two loops will allow us to add Xingang and Xiamen [both in China] to the rotation while not compromising on the transit time.”
This news follows a massive announcement from the world’s leading carrier Maersk Line that it will be cutting services to and from 10 Chinese ports.
This decision has been taken in a bid to cut costs, however, the carrier has said that it should not be interpreted as being a fundamental change in the line’s strategy.
Despite this news, PTI previously reported that Maersk Line is to open up a new feeder service which will call at the Port of Liverpool.
