Onne Multipurpose Terminal (OMT), International Container Terminal Services, Inc.’s (ICTSI) operation in Nigeria, has acquired and installed two new mobile harbour cranes (MHC) and a container freight station (CFS).
The new cranes, valued at over $25 million, are designed to boost OMT’s container handling efficiency, shorten vessel turnaround times, and optimise overall cargo operations.
The implementation enables the terminal to satisfy the rising demand for dependable port services while fitting with the federal government’s blue economy strategy.

Meanwhile, the new CFS at Terminal 2 reportedly improves cargo processing and storage efficiency, improving the flow of commodities and serving as a valuable resource for regional stakeholders.
Jacob Gulmann, OMT Chief Executive Officer, said: “These investments are aimed at further improving the terminal’s overall operations and represent the ICTSI Group’s commitment to boosting Nigeria’s competitiveness in global trade.
“We thank our partners in the government and stakeholders in the industry for their cooperation in achieving these milestones.”
In June 2024, OMT handled the Kota Cempaka, the largest container vessel to conduct full operations in Eastern Nigeria.
