Ocean Network Express (ONE), the container shipping alliance between K Line, MOL and NYK, has celebrated its one-year anniversary and said it is better equipped than ever to meet the challenges of the global maritime industry.

In a statement, ONE said it has emerged as a significant multi-trade global carrier and that it ensured its competitiveness and relevance with a number of achievements in the past 12 months.

These include a massive enhancement of its refrigerated container capacity, to the point where ONE is now ranked as one of the top-5 largest refrigerated carriers in the world.

It also includes the introduction of 31 super-large mega container vessels – 20,000 TEU plus – and the successful launch of a four mega-container ship berth, which can handle 4 million TEU, at the Pasir Panjang Terminal in Singapore, as part of a joint venture with PSA International.

PTI covered ONE’s launch this time last year when its CEO Jeremy Nixon said the carrier would retain its focus on the customer and always it was ‘large enough to survive but still small enough to care.

Speaking about the one-year anniversary, Nixon said this: “As we celebrate our first operating anniversary as ONE together, I express my heartfelt appreciation to our customers, business partners, shareholders and worldwide employees for their dedication, teamwork and determination of making this largest start-up entity of the industry a success in every aspect.

“Thank you for being with ONE, and let's plan for success together for many more years to come. As ONE, we CAN!”

It launched its first container ship, the ONE Mintao, on April 1, 2019 and at that point aimed for a fleet of 250 vessels with a combined TEU capacity of 1.4 million TEU.
