The Port of Oakland will welcome a new ship from the Ocean Network Express at its TraPac marine terminal today.

The 1,036-foot-long, 8,000 TEU ONE Competence is the first to boast a magenta hull after the formation of ONE from Japan’s merged ocean carriers – K Line, MOL and NYK.

Its cherry blossom colour is representative of Japan’s spring season, as the trees blooming is a common sight across the country.

Dr Noel Hacegaba discusses the newly integrated Ocean Network Express brand in a recent Port Technology technical paper

ONE has also revealed plans to brand 240 other magenta vessels.

John Driscoll, Port of Oakland Maritime Director, commented: “It will be a glorious sight.

“We’ve been welcoming the Japanese fleet to Oakland for years, but this will be an eye-popper: a reminder that things are changing in our industry.”
