Tokyo-based shipper Nippon Yusen Kaisha (NYK) has completed its annual winter safety campaign.
The ‘Sail on Safety’ Campaign ran from December 1 2013 till January 31 2014.
The campaign, which has been held annually since 2004, seeks to promote measures in prevention of accidents more likely to occur over winter months.
According to World Maritime News (WMN), 383 NYK members, including executives, visited 251 vessels during the length of the campaign.
The aim is to strengthen relations between both offshore and onshore crews whilst allowing for discussion in regards to prevention measures that can be made during the winter periods more turbulent seas.
Since its founding, 3,100 NYK Group members have made 1,942 visits to vessels to promote communication and understanding at all points of their operations and ensure that safety of their staff holds the highest priority.
