Ningbo Port has successfully passed the 20 million TEU mark which has subsequently sealed its place as the world’s fifth busiest container port.
According to the Journal of Commerce, Ningbo Port has knocked Busan Port from the fifth spot, with the Busan Port Authority stating that its target for 2014 was 18.2 million TEU.
However, in the first nine months of 2014, Busan handled only 13.7 million TEU.

According to a Ningbo port-statement, the 20 million TEU figure was 16.5% more than the number of containers handled in 2001.
Currently, Ningbo has 228 container routes and it is now able to handle megaships after recent developments to upgrade its natural deepwater berths.
Container services between Ningbo and Taiwan have also experienced sharp growth in 2014.
Ningbo has recently upgraded its cargo network and its facilities, and remains China’s fastest growing port.
