Bureau Veritas has released a new cloud-based app to help shipowners comply with regulations for energy efficiency management.
My Fuel Consumption, an app available on desktop and mobile platforms, features a digitized process for the various steps of the IMO-DCS (declaration of fuel consumption) and the EU MRV regulations (that curb CO2 emissions) — which aim to protect the environment via reducing emissions.
Currently, all ships of 5000 gross tonnage (GT) or more must complete and submit an IMO-DCS plan before January 1st, 2019 to receive a confirmation of compliance.
Phase one of My Fuel Consumption allows ship owners to fill in and submit their Ship Energy Efficiency Management Plans (SEEMPs) for the necessary confirmation of compliance.
From 2019 onwards, all ships of 5000 GT or more will need to report all fuel consumption data for each year before March 31st of the following year — a plan which is currently effective for EU-MRV applicable ships.

Phase 2 of the app, planned for release in June, will allow ship owners to complete both declarations for the IMO-DCS and EU-MRV through a single online form.
Users will also be able to check the progress of their reviews and download their statement of compliance through the app.
Vice President Operational Excellence, Bureau Veritas, Laurent Hentges, said: “The whole point of My Fuel Consumption is to make life simpler and easier for our clients, and therefore contribute to the reduction of emissions.
“It also helps them to get accessible, accurate and useful data as well as being a compliance tool.”
