Navis has announced that it has gone live with its Master Terminal operating system at Inter Modal Logistic (IML) Milano Segrate Terminal (Ignazio Messina & C SpA).

Milano Segrate is currently in the process of updating its inland and intermodal terminals in order to integrate with the Intermodal Marine Terminal in the Port of Genoa, which already uses the Master Terminal software.

With IML, an intermodal container depot that operates at 100,000 TEU annually, by operating on the same system as its Genoa facility it will allow the Milano team to better track operations, gain better control over yard and terminal handling moves, optimise storage planning and scale EDI capabilities across multiple Messina terminals.

“Our Milano team was relying on manual spreadsheets for storage planning and had challenges tracking containers before we implemented Master Terminal,” said Ignazio Messina, CEO of Ignazio Messina & C SpA.

“Shipping and logistics need integrated IT solutions like Master Terminal to address inefficiencies. If offers a commercial advantage that we look forward to adding throughout our company to gain the same insights, we have in Milano and Genoa.”

The operating system which gives a real-time view of all operations and data at any marine or inland terminal was implemented over the course of three months, aided by staffers at the Genoa terminals. Navis has also provided advanced training and go-live support ready for the launch.

Jacques Marchetti, General Manager of EMEA at Navis, added, “Since Genoa was already using Master Terminal it was a quick and seamless implementation in Milano.

“Improving yard operations was one of the biggest priorities on this project and as Messina terminals continue to integrate Master Terminal, crews will become even more efficient.”

IML – Milano Segrate is Messina’s first intermodal terminal to go live with Master Terminal and is planning to expand the software to the Vincenza and Dinazzano inland terminals.

The Master Terminal operating system has also been implemented C. Steinweg’s Botlek Terminal. This marks part of C. Steinweg’s plan to roll out Master Terminal across its broader network of terminals in Rotterdam, South Holland.

Botlek went live with Master Terminal in April 2021 with Navis performing the implementation and subsequent training remotely over the course of 14 weeks.
