The MV Isle of Islay has successfully completed its first sea trials, conducted by Cemre Marin Endustri in Yalova, Turkey.
The trials took place in the Sea of Marmara from 22 to 30 May, with representatives from Caledonian Maritime Assets Limited (CMAL) and CalMac present.
During the initial phase of the trials, the vessel’s propulsion systems, generators, thrusters, stabilisers, and related electrical systems were set up and tested.
These systems underwent thorough evaluation and measurement in the presence of Lloyd’s Register and the Marine Coastguard Agency (MCA).
The testing programme assessed the vessel’s performance under full load, including speed, stability, manoeuvrability, anchor deployment and recovery, as well as endurance.
The effectiveness of the propulsion plant, automation, and navigational systems was also established during this phase.

Jim Anderson, Director of Vessels at CMAL, commented: “This is a great step forward in the build programme of the Isle of Islay. The team at Cemre are working hard to prepare the vessel for delivery. There is a great feeling of momentum following the successful completion of this first phase of sea trials.”
A second set of sea trials is scheduled for later this summer, following the installation of the vessel’s battery system and harbour acceptance trials of the hybrid system.
