Mediterranean Shipping Co (MSC) has announced that Diego Aponte is to take over from his father and be named the company’s president and CEO.
MSC is the world’s second-largest shipping line.
Diego Aponte’s father Gianluigi Aponte will “continue to oversee all group related activities as well as supporting Diego in shaping the future of MSC”, according to a statement from the company.
Recent Alphaliner research has indicated that with two recent orders for a series of 19,000 TEU ships, MSC is anticipated to overtake Maersk to become the largest box carrier by the end of 2016.
Diego Aponte is said to have been one of the chief architects of the new 2M alliance.
