A 22-year-old suspect has been arrested after an incident involving a false bomb threat on the containership MSC Lorena last month.

Local media reported that the 275-metre-long vessel turned away from the Port of Antwerp at about 3:00 pm 22 December after an unidentified perpetrator had reported of a potential explosion, should the vessel dock at the port.

The vessel was off the coast of Vlissingen en-route to the Port of Antwerp.

The Belgian police force initially received bomb reports before the Infrastructure Department of the National Unit tracked down the man.

The captain was instructed at the time to return to Vlissingen along the Scheldt.
