MSC has launched an online quotation tool called ‘Instant Quote’ which it claims offers shippers the capability to get quotes as faster and simpler than ever before as part of efforts to accelerate digitisation across its business.

In a statement, MSC said it recognised the importance of digitisation across the shipping industry and the need to continuously invest in and develop new technologies.

The carrier said its ‘Instant Quote’ complements its “already existing and straightforward” set of e-business tools from where customers can place and manage bookings, check vessel schedules, track shipments, access documents and get notifications.

In addition, the carrier believes providing easy access to its rates for ocean shipping will make its customers’ supply chain easier to manage and improve end-to-end efficiency.

This idea of using digital technology to improve transparency and data accessibility is one of the biggest trends in the maritime sector, and is particularly popular among the world’s biggest carriers.

A.P. Moeller-Maersk (Maersk) has seen use of its tracking app increase by 90% throughout the COVID-19 pandemic as customers look to order remotely and track cargo more efficiently.

Maersk have been front runners in launching instant booking tools and have been joined by Hapag-Lloyd, Evergreen Line, ZIM and now MSC.
