The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) has received notification of an incident between the Singapore-flagged vessel Maersk Shekou and the tall ship STS Leeuwin II in the Port of Fremantle, Australia.
The incident was reported on 30 August at 06:20 am (Singapore Time). The Maersk Shekou was piloting into the port with the assistance of four tugs when it collided with the STS Leeuwin II, which was berthed.
According to reports, the incident damaged the roof of the nearby Maritime Museum as well.
The collision reportedly caused the mast of STS Leeuwin II to fall, causing damage to the Maersk Shekou’s hull.

The Maersk Shekou is now anchored at the Fremantle Container Terminal to help Australian authorities in their investigations. No pollution was recorded.
According to MPA, two crew members aboard STS Leeuwin II have been reported to have sustained injuries. The other 26 crew members onboard Maersk Shekou are reported to be safe and uninjured.
MPA is in contact with both the vessel manager and the Fremantle Port Authority. MPA, the Flag State of Maersk Shekou, will conduct an investigation into the occurrence.
