MPA reports unauthorised boarding of chemical tanker in Singapore
The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) has been notified of an unlawful boarding of the Singapore-registered chemical tanker BASSET in the Singapore Strait.

This reportedly took place outside Singapore Territorial Waters, at approximately 07:00am (SGT) on 28 February. A crew member was reported to be injured.

As of 28 February, the vessel has been reported anchored in Singapore seas, and the Singapore Police Coast Guard and Singapore Civil Defence Force have been deployed to help. Medical evacuation of the injured crew is underway.

There was reportedly no Singaporean personnel onboard. The whole crew has been accounted for. MPA has revealed that it is sending out safety broadcasts to vessels to maintain a vigilant watch. The safety of passage along the Singapore Strait remains unaffected.

In September 2024, MPA received notification of an incident between the Singapore-flagged vessel Maersk Shekou and the tall ship STS Leeuwin II in the Port of Fremantle, Australia.

A month later, MPA reported the completion of its cleaning of Shell’s leaky slop in the canal between Pulau Bukom and Bukom Kechil.
