MOL receives third party certification for Pure Car Carrier Book and Claim Service

Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (MOL) has received third-party certification for its book and claim service for pure automobile carriers following an audit by Nippon Kaiji Kyokai (ClassNK).

This is the first time ClassNK has provided third-party certification of book and claim technique in Japan’s marine shipping company. MOL will start this service in January 2025.

This service will allow MOL to allocate GHG reduction value resulting from the use of low-carbon fuels, including LNG and biofuels.

MOL has gained ClassNK approval for the technique used in this service. The Japanese shipping company has chosen to deploy 14 new LNG-powered vehicle carriers.

While decreasing its own GHG emissions through the use of more ecologically friendly fuels and other measures, the company vowed to explore projects to help reduce GHG emissions to reach net-zero emissions by 2050.

Recently, MOL signed a comprehensive Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) to deepen cooperation in the fields of decarbonisation, digitalisation, and human resources development.
