Saqr Port Authority has ordered new mobile harbour cranes for its deep-water berths to strengthen its bulk handling position in the Middle East.

The port will recieve two Liebherr LHM 800s in spring 2018.

Saqr Port is located at the foot of the Hajar Mountains in the north of the United Arab Emirates and mainly handles limestones and aggregates, which serves the majority of the construction projects within the Middle East and is central to its economic success.

The LHM 800 bulk handling configuration comes with a 54 metres boom and a maximum lifting capacity of up to 144 tonnes.

Both machines are equipped with Liebherr’s Pactronic system, which reduces fuel consumption and regenerates reverse power while lowering the load.

Saqr Port has ordered over ten Liebherr mobile harbour cranes in the past and built up a Liebherr crane operator training centre for its staff.

Captain Cliff Brand, Group General Manager RAK Ports, said: “These new mobile harbour cranes will help us to improve our bulk handling efficiency even more.

“Thanks to its high lifting capacities at a wide outreach, we are able to expand our service portfolio up to Capesize class vessels.

“This is very important for the future development of our port. We have been operating Liebherr mobile harbour cranes for many years and are very satisfied with the overall performance and the reliability of the machines.”

Liebherr recently celebrated its cooperation with Damen Shipyards Group after recieving its 110th order with the maritime conglomerate.
