As we gear up for the Port Technology Summit North America next week, we’re excited to share insights from our Silver Sponsor, BOXBAY, on how digitalisation and sustainability are shaping the future of ports and terminals in the US.
Join us from 4 – 6 February 2025 at Hilton The Main, Norfolk, Virginia for this landmark event. Combining the best of the Container Terminal Automation Conference and Smart Digital Ports Conference, the Summit will feature keynotes, panel discussions, and networking with C-level leaders tackling the industry’s biggest challenges.

How do you see digitalisation shaping the future of ports and terminals in North America?
We see digitalisation in ports and terminals just as important for and continuing to catch up with other industries that are more “digitalised”. We see it as inevitable; it just takes our industry a little longer to adapt and implement change than others.
What role do you believe sustainability will play in the port industry over the next decade?
Sustainability will continue to play a stronger role as governments, and the private sector continue to move this higher on the priority list. It may even become a top driving factor for many ports and terminal investments by the end of the decade.
How can ports better collaborate with technology providers to accelerate innovation?
By informing and educating ourselves better and better on the possibilities available we can make quicker, more informed and smart choices.
What motivated you to attend the Port Technology Summit North America, and what key insights are you hoping to gain from the discussions and networking opportunities?
The combined nature of the conference is really attractive for BOXBAY in creating awareness of its disruptive and revolutionary benefits to the Americas market. We’re hoping to get a better understanding of the levers and barriers for ports and terminals to consider such a disruptive solution.
BOXBAY is an international joint venture formed by global trade enabler DP World and industrial engineering specialists SMS group.
The BOXBAY High Bay Storage (HBS) systems achieve a three-fold increase in the transshipment capacity of container terminals and use only one-third of the footprint of conventional storage systems for an equivalent number of containers. Instead of stacking containers directly on top of each other BOXBAY places each container in an individual rack, making each one directly accessible.
