The Port of Sete, France, has unveiled plans to become a smart port after selecting MGI’s Ci5 Cargo Community System (CCS) to upgrade its digital management of container traffic.

In a statement, the port said it had signed a contract with MGI for five years after launching a call for tenders in November 2019. In doing so, the port says it has renewed its “historic relationship” with MGI.

It will be the first IT upgrade the port has had since 2012 and the new platform will improve management across all its traffic flow, including containers, trailers, bulk, livestock and more. It will become operations later in 2020.

With Ci5, paperwork will be replaced and the passage of goods will be accelerated, which will subsequently mean a cut in carbon emissions throughout port operations.

“The establishment of Ci5 is a new step for the port community of Sète which was one of the first to set up a Cargo Community System including bulk goods,” said Oliver Carmes, Managing Director, Port Sud de France.

“It is a new step in the expansion of the port market’s service offering, which combines efficiency and personalization.

“The concept of community is a strong concept in Sète, because it is the port in the broad sense that is involved: agents, forwarders, shipping companies, shippers, Customs, port authority. MGI’s 5-year commitment is a token of confidence in the place.”
