The Saudi Ports Authority (MAWANI) has announced that its ports achieved an increase in the number of handling containers during the month of August 2023.
According to MAWANI, container handling increased by 4.79 per cent, reaching 721,629 standard containers, compared to 688,667 standard containers in the same month of 2022.
The number of containers issued during the month of August 2023 increased by 5.98 per cent to 218,051 containers, compared to 205,740 containers in the same period the previous year.
Additionally, the number of containers received increased by 1.91 per cent to 226,738 containers, compared to 222,480 containers in the same month the previous year.

Transshipment containers increased by 6.29 per cent, reaching 276,840 containers in August 2022, up from 260,447 containers in August 2022.
The ports also saw a 17.20 per cent decline in total tonnage handled, hitting 24,118,698 tonnes, compared to 29,128,327 tonnes.
According to MAWANI, general cargo quantities reached 609,007 tonnes in 2022, solid bulk cargo volumes reached 3,865,565 tonnes, and liquid bulk cargo volumes reached 11,689,841 tonnes, with ports recording an unloading rate of 557,000 tonnes.
MAWANI-managed trade hubs handled a consolidated container volume of 753,496 TEU in July.
