The Saudi Ports Authority (MAWANI) and the Port of Rotterdam have signed a partnership agreement aimed at enhancing joint cooperation in the field of developing smart ports.
According to MAWANI, this partnership seeks to create economic and social value to enhance innovation and develop pioneering capabilities in the Kingdom’s ports, in line with the objectives of the National Strategy for Transport and Logistics Services.
The deal was signed at the Jeddah Islamic Port by Omar Hariri, President of the Saudi Ports Authority, and Boudewijn Siemons, CEO of the Port of Rotterdam.
The agreement covers a variety of areas, including digital transition to smart ports, maritime environment support, and the green ports initative.

In July 2023, MAWANI-managed trade hubs handled a consolidated container volume of 753,496 TEU.
The following month, MAWANI welcomed the largest containership in the port’s history, the MSC Loreto, with a carrying capacity of 24,246 TEU.
