The Saudi Ports Authority (MAWANI) has welcomed the largest containership in the port’s history, the MSC Loreto, with a carrying capacity of 24,246 TEU.
Featuring a 24,000-square-metre deck area and a service speed of 22.5 knots, the MSC Loreto is equipped with cutting-edge capabilities to optimise its consumption of energy and fuel.
The selection of the Jeddah Islamic Port’s huge ship, according to MAWANI, demonstrates the port’s economic activity as the first port on the Red Sea coast in transit nautical trade and container and cargo transshipment.
It also improves operational efficiency and the Kingdom’s navigational connectivity with the rest of the globe.

The largest container vessel to visit the Red Sea hub before this landmark occasion was the CMA CGM Jacques Saade, the world’s largest LNG-powered boxship that boasts a loading capacity of 23,000 TEU.
In June 2023, MAWANI announced the addition of Jeddah Islamic Port to the REX service operated by Omani International Logistics Group (ASYAD).
That same month, MAWANI recorded a 6.79 per cent year-on-year uptick in TEU throughput across its trade hubs.
