Matadi Gateway Terminal (MGT), International Container Terminal Services, Inc.’s (ICTSI) operation in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, has purchased four new hybrid and automated Rubber-Tyred Gantries (RTGs).
The RTGs will reportedly increase yard productivity and allow the Matadi terminal to provide more alternatives for handling rising cargo traffic.
Timothee Jeannin, MGT General Manager, said: “With these additional cranes, MGT will improve vessel and truck turnaround times, leading to faster services and enhanced safety standards.
“These modern equipment also reduce the risk of technical failures by distributing the workload more effectively, guaranteeing more reliable and continuous operation.”

MGT has already begun the development of a 2.65-kilometre road connecting the Port of Matadi to vital transportation routes, as well as an expansion of the storage yard to meet increased cargo volumes and parking facilities.
These infrastructural changes are projected to improve freight transportation, reduce congestion, and help MGT’s long-term growth.
Recently, Matadi Gateway Terminal announced that it will undertake several key projects in 2025.
