Marsa Maroc adopts heyport for smarter port calls
All five Marsa Maroc terminals at the Port of Casablanca have fully deployed the smart berth planning platform, heyport, to streamline port calls and terminal operations.

By centralising planning, heyport reportedly improves efficiency, transparency, and coordination among stakeholders. It replaces manual processes and fragmented data with real-time, satellite-based vessel tracking, weather and tide forecasts, and automatic scheduling for over 150 liner carriers.

Seamless integration with Marsa Maroc’s Terminal Operating System and the local Port Community System also reduces manual data entry and errors.

Beyond streamlining operations, heyport improves resource allocation with precise crane and labour gang assignments, reducing turnaround times, enabling real-time collaboration among terminals, port authorities, and external partners—even across multiple ports.

Its advanced planning tools help manage last-minute changes efficiently. The entire rollout was completed in just 12 weeks, from launch to full deployment.

According to HHLA, just-in-time (JIT) arrivals can cut CO2 emissions by up to 14 per cent.

This is based on studies from the Port of Hamburg and the International Maritime Organization (IMO), supporting more sustainable shipping.

Manual communication has decreased by 90 per cent, allowing staff to focus on higher-value tasks.

Additionally, each port call now saves an average of 180 minutes in planning and coordination, enhancing overall efficiency and turnaround times.

Jan Cantow, Co-Founder of heyport, said: “The rapid implementation and immediate efficiency gains demonstrate the power of digital collaboration and the adaptability of the Marsa Maroc team. We look forward to scaling and further optimising port operations, not only in Casablanca but across Morocco and beyond.”

Amine Boulif, Head of Operations at Marsa Maroc Container Terminals Casablanca, stated: “The implementation of heyport marks a turning point for our operations. This platform helps us minimise vessel turnaround times, reduce emissions, and deliver even better service to our customers.”

In April, the consortium consisting of Boluda Towage France and Marsa Maroc was awarded the operating license to carry out towing and assistance activities at Nador West Med port for 20 years, starting from the fourth quarter of 2026.
