Maritime Safety Series: What to expect

Port Technology International (PTI) is excited to introduce the speakers and sessions for the upcoming Maritime Safety Series: Ports Edition in partnership with ICHCA.

The Maritime Safety Series event will be held virtually from 3 – 4 December 2024.

Several sessions will be held over two days, giving attendees the chance to hear from recognised experts in the maritime industry, covering the latest developments and most pertinent topics pertaining to maritime safety.

The event offers a full lineup of keynotes, panel discussions, and case studies centred on critical topics like risk assessment, mitigation strategies, and cutting-edge technological advancements to improve safety.

By emphasizing the significance of regulatory compliance and the benefits of strategic safety investments, PTI’s goal with this event is to drive a positive cultural transformation within the maritime industry.

The first day, 3 December, will be centred around safety at the forefront of port operations, touching on its importance and benefits in ports and terminals.

This day will include ‘The Foundations of Safety: Prioritising Safety Initiatives in Port Operations’, where panellists will discuss topics from risk assessments and incident response to the implementation of new technologies and processes alongside the importance of establishing safety initiatives throughout ports. The session will also delve into the value of cultivating a safety-oriented workforce and the role that leadership and communication have to play in this endeavour.

Another key session set to take place on the same day is the highly anticipated ‘Cultural Change As The Essential Mover For Safer Port Operations’ session. This session will shed light on how a foundational culture inclined towards safety is essential for any substantial development in maritime safety. The session will explore the vital relationship between a workforce’s culture alongside training and leadership.

The second day, on 4 December, will focus on innovation and technology and how it can be leveraged to establish comprehensive changes in maritime safety.

This day includes the all-important panel discussion titled ‘Innovation and Technology For Safer Ports: Benefits and Limitations’. Panellists will explore how newer technologies and solutions could be harmonised with training, leadership and a culture of safety. The session will also touch on the plethora of benefits that technological innovation could bring to maritime safety while delving into any potential safety concerns that may arise from the industry’s increasing reliance on automated and tech-dependent port operations.
