MARAD is looking for ideas from organisations to help build and operate the centre, as well as act as its secretariat.
The virtual centre is funded through a competitive cooperation agreement with the Maritime Environmental and Technical Assistance (META) programme.
In August 2023, the MARAD announced the designation of two new Marine Highway Routes, as part of the United States Marine Highway Program (MHP).
