Kalmar, a part of Cargotec, has received an order for 27 straddle carriers from long-term customer Maher Terminals LLC, a multi-user container terminal operator in New Jersey, US.

The order, which was booked into Cargotec's Q3, 2015 order intake and deliveries, is expected to be complete during the spring of 2016.

Maher Terminals’ is both renewing and expanding its straddle carrier fleet with environmentally friendly diesel-electric power, which utilises US EPA-mandate Tier 4 final emission controls.

The Kalmar ESC350 diesel-electric straddle carriers are rated for 45 tonnes with twin 6-metre containers or 36 tonnes with single containers.

The straddle carriers will be tested in Kalmar's testing facilities and delivered fully upright, allowing shorter installation and commissioning time on site.

Richard Pope, Manager of Port Crane Sales in North America at Kalmar, said: “Maher Terminals LLC is a long-standing customer of ours and we value the relationship greatly. We are honoured to be part of their development activities.

“When the industry is in transition driven by rapid technological, environmental and economic developments, we are committed to provide state-of-the-art solutions.”

Maher Terminals has launched a ‘Sustainable Port Infrastructure Project’ in order to strengthen operations while helping to reduce environmental impact and use of natural resources.
