A video released by Shipping TV shows on a Maersk containership bound for Europe run aground in the Suez Canal, resulting in a severe blockage of trade flows for several hours.

PTI previously reported two incidents whereby a Maersk containership ran aground in Antwerp and a second incident in which a Maersk chemical tanker crashed along the Houston Ship Canal.

Joshua Turner, Communications Manager for Maersk Line UK, said: “We can confirm that Susan Maersk grounded Saturday morning in the southern part of Suez Canal while en route Northbound. Vessel was under pilotage and weather was dense fog. In the afternoon the vessel was helped off ground and resumed its voyage. The vessel is tight and crew, vessel and cargo safe. We are looking into the reason behind the grounding.”

There was also an incident involving the Hoegh Osaka container ship, which had be grounded in the solent strait, UK after it began to capsize.
