Diana Containerships, a global shipping company specialising in the ownership of containerships, has announced that it has entered into a time charter contract with Maersk Line for one of its Post-Panamax container vessels, the 5,576 TEU m/v Great.

The gross charter rate is US$14,750 per day, minus a 5% commission paid to third parties, for a minimum period of six months to a maximum of nine months. The charter is expected to commence on August 15, 2015.

Maersk has recently finalised a contract with Hyundai Heavy Industries for the construction of nine 14,000 TEU ships, with the option of adding another eight by 2017.

This follows Maersk Line’s initial plan to spend around $15 billion on new ships and equipment under its capital investment plan.

The charterer has the option to employ the vessel for a further nine month period, plus or minus 30 days, at a gross daily rate of US$21,000 minus a 5% commission paid to third parties.

This employment is anticipated to generate approximately $2.66 million of gross revenue for the minimum scheduled period of the charter.

Diana Containerships’ fleet currently consists of 12 container vessels (4 Post-Panamax and 8 Panamax) as well as a Panamax container vessel, the m/v Cap Domingo, presumed sold, to be delivered to its new owners by mid-March 2016.

Fact File: Diana Containerships is a global provider of shipping transportation services through its ownership of containerships. The company's vessels are employed primarily on time charters with leading liner companies carrying containerised cargo along worldwide shipping routes.
