Maersk unveils new ocean service to support Tanzania’s cashew trade

A.P. Moller-Maersk (Maersk) has announced the inauguration of the Korosho Express, a seasonal maritime service developed exclusively to help the Tanzania cashew trade.

The service will begin operations in late October 2024 and continue until February 2025, coinciding with the peak cashew season.

The Korosho Express will reportedly sail bi-weekly from Mtwara, Tanzania, to significant markets in China, Vietnam, and India.

The new service aims to provide dedicated capacity, equipment, increased connection, and simplified shipping to meet increasing export volumes while ensuring dependable transit times and schedule integrity.

Babafemi Jay Aderounmu, Head of East Africa Market for Maersk’s ocean business, said: “By offering reliable, scheduled services during the peak cashew season, we’re enabling more efficient trade flows and supporting the growth of this vital export commodity.”

Recently, Maersk Warehousing & Distribution Services USA LLC opened a new 1.2-million-square-foot omnichannel fulfilment facility in Groveport, Ohio.
