A.P. Moller – Maersk (Maersk) has formed a long-term strategic partnership with wind turbine manufacturer Vestas for all containerised transport, effective from 1 January 2022.
The partnership includes door-to-door transport from the company’s suppliers to their factories and service warehouses as well as containerised site parts and transport equipment.
As per the agreement, Vestas will receive direct access to container capacity at a fixed price and allow for opportunities to co-develop joint sustainability initiatives, where the two parties can join forces to decarbonise logistics.
This is the latest partnership from Vestas as it strives to serve the growing global market for sustainable energy solutions and protect profitability in the global business environment for renewables. The manufacturer commonly looks for partners that can help mitigate the negative impact from the current supply chain issues and scale business efficiency in the long term.
“The need for sustainable energy is as big as ever with an increasingly challenging business environment, we are pleased to partner with Maersk on containerised transport,” Tommy Rahbek Nielsen, Chief Operating Officer for Vestas.
“By partnering with Maersk, we can further accelerate the deployment of wind energy and protect profitability, while working together on developing solutions that can make our supply chain more sustainable. We want to create a sustainable, resilient and predictable supply chain and by partnering with a world leader such as Maersk, we strengthen our supply chain, our partnership setup within transport and create opportunities to improve sustainability.”
Vincent Clerc, Executive President and CEO of Ocean and Logistics for Maersk, added “We are enthusiastic to be chosen as Vestas’ main logistics partner. Running a global supply chain that can meet the needs of a global leader in sustainable energy solutions is both a complex and highly demanding undertaking.
“We will work hard to provide fast, resilient, and dynamic supply chain solutions to Vestas as a modern end-to-end logistics company with fully controlled assets while empowering it and turning complications into opportunities.”
This follows the news that Maersk has joined the First Movers Coalition to drive demand for carbon-neutral solutions in hard-to-abate industries. Announced in November 2021, the shipping liner will stand as a founding member of the initiative alongside the likes of Amazon and Apple.
