Maersk, Danone partner to reduce GHG emissions

A.P. Moller-Maersk (Maersk) has teamed up with Danone, a prominent food and beverage company, to cut logistics GHG emissions utilising Maersk ECO Delivery Ocean.

Maersk ECO Delivery Ocean is a product based on low-GHG emission fuels such as biodiesel or biomethanol, which are manufactured entirely from waste feedstocks. These fuels are then utilised on ships across the Maersk fleet.

Danone’s ECO Delivery Ocean reportedly reduces GHG emissions by over 40 per cent compared to traditional fossil fuels.

The partnership includes not just maritime shipping, but also extensive inland transport solutions and dedicated control towers to ensure that logistical operations run smoothly at all times.

Jean-Yves Krummenacher, Global Chief Procurement Officer at Danone, said: “The ECO Delivery Ocean product and its reduced GHG emissions align well with our decarbonisation strategy to focus primarily on alternative fuels and multimodal transportation.

“Maersk is an important partner and using their product to reduce CO2 emissions on sea freight marks yet another step in our decarbonisation journey.”

Emilio de la Cruz, Maersk Area Managing Director South West Europe, added: “Well-known companies like Danone can act as a beacon in their industries by using effective levers to decarbonise their supply chains. We are proud to be Danone’s trusted partner in this important task.”

In June, the Danish giant launched its first low GHG emissions warehouse in Taulov Dry Port in Fredericia, Denmark.
