The Port of Long Beach has been granted approval by the Board of Harbour Commissioners to initiate its updated strategic plan, which sets out key goals for the second-busiest seaport in the US.

Objectives listed by the port include maintaining the financial strength and security of its assets, as well developing infrastructure that boosts the efficiency of cargo movement.

Long Beach also wishes to improve the environment through sustainable practices, mitigating the impact of port operations.

Another feature of the proposal is to broaden community access to port-related opportunities and economic benefits, a move which will be complemented by attracting a diverse, high-performing workforce.

According to a statement, this plan will enable Long Beach to continue prospering while meeting the needs of the shipping industry.
