Hapag-Lloyd opens Benin office to boost growth
Hapag-Lloyd has announced that it will open a new office in Cotonou, Benin.

The carrier revealed that it will open the office on 20 May as it looks to strengthen its presence in the growing West African market.

The move will allow the carrier to serve customers in Benin directly through a dedicated local presence as the country’s role in regional trade continues to grow.

Benin has emerged as an increasingly significant market in West Africa, supported by steady economic growth and continued investment in infrastructure and trade facilitation.

The Port of Cotonou remains a key gateway for cargo moving into Benin and neighbouring landlocked markets, including Niger and Burkina Faso, reinforcing the country’s position as a regional logistics hub.

Hapag-Lloyd has historically served customers in Benin through its wider regional network, with Cotonou acting as an important link between West Africa and global trade lanes.

The new office is expected to strengthen customer engagement, improve responsiveness, and support more tailored services for the local market.

Jesper Kanstrup, Managing Director Sub-Region Africa at Hapag-Lloyd, said: “Opening our new office in Benin is an important step in strengthening our presence in West Africa.

“Benin plays an important role in our growth ambitions under Strategy 2030. With a dedicated local presence, we can be closer to our customers and partners while supporting the continued development of trade in the region.”
