Floating equipment expert Grupo Lindley’s subsidiary Lindley recently completed the first phase of the supply and installation of river landings along the Kubango River in Angola.

The project involved a detailed study of the river using cleaver engineering solutions that were able to survive floods and provide a safe landing platform.

The contract included the design, manufacture and assembly of several floating

pontoons which were specially designed to allow safe boarding of people onto to the small ferries that operate along the river.

The landings were equipped with Lindley’s Sagres HD range of floating pontoons. These comprise a reinforced steel structure hot-dip galvanised, with a hardwood timber deck and EPS filled polyethylene floats.

The second phase will be launched in the beginning of 2015 with the installation of more landings, which are already being fabricated, thus providing other municipalities with similar facilities to serve the local population with better communication routes.

The Kubango River is the fourth longest river system in southern Africa, running south-eastwards for 1,600km from central Angola, through Namibia to the Kalahari (Botswana).
