Container crane company Liebherr has announced a successful contract to supply two ship-to-shore (STS) container cranes to Flinders Adelaide container terminal.
Purchased as part of a 30 year strategic plan, the cranes are perfectly adapted to deal with the new host of Panamax sized vessels now dominating ocean shipping routes.
Each crane has an operational outreach of 50 metres and is capable of carrying a safe working load of 65 tonnes under the twin lift spreader and a further 80 tonnes using a hook beam.
The cranes are capable of a 38 metre lift height over rail, have a span of 25.3 metres and a back reach of 20 metres.
The investment comes as part of a series of upgrades that aim to increase vessel turnaround and make Port Adelaide stand out as a world class container facility.
Peter Cheers, general manager of Fliders Adelaide Container Terminal said “We conducted rigorous supplier evaluations as part of our procurement process and assessed this in-line with our long-run planning for the terminal. The post-panamax Liebherr cranes were the best match for our requirements and will allow us to maximise the flow-on benefits for our customers.”
