Liebherr Containers Cranes (LCC) recently commissioned seven straddle carriers at the ECT Delta Terminal in Rotterdam.
The new machines can safely manage up to 40 tonnes, stacking 1 container high over 2 rows. Each is supplied with a Stinis spreader.
The straddle carriers will operate throughout the landside interface zone, shuttling between automatic stacking cranes and trucks.
The straddles will handle multi trailers for intra-terminal transfer for onward transport by train or barge.
Each carrier will be linked to a remote positional tracking system, providing real-time accurate information on the position and handling rates of containers within the terminal.
Speaking about the commissioning, Paul Bolger, mobile product manager at Liebherr said “The purchase by ECT Terminal in Rotterdam of Liebherr straddle carriers illustrates our capacity to deliver a cost effective state of the art product with the ability to work in the world’s most advanced facilities.”
ECT Delta Terminal is the largest terminal in Europe and acts as one of Europe’s major trade gateways.
