Liebherr has delivered two new ship-to-shore (STS) cranes to Port Newark Container Terminal (PNCT), enhancing the terminal’s capabilities to accommodate larger vessels.
This delivery is part of PNCT’s ongoing $500 million expansion project, aimed at increasing capacity at one of the busiest ports on the US East Coast.
Manufactured at Liebherr’s facility in Killarney, Ireland, the cranes are designed to meet the demands of modern container shipping.
With an outreach of 226 feet (69 metres) and a lift height over rail of 175 feet (53 metres), these cranes are built to handle ultra-large container vessels and feature electronic anti-sway and laser anti-collision systems to ensure smooth and safe crane operations.

Declan O’Sullivan, General Manager Sales at Liebherr Container Cranes Ltd., said: “We’ve been delivering cranes to the US for many years, and this ongoing partnership with PNCT speaks to the trust and confidence that customers place in our engineering expertise.
“Our customisable designs and in-house manufacturing allow us to offer tailored solutions that meet the needs of each terminal. Liebherr has earned a reputation for high-quality engineering and is proud to continue to be a trusted partner to ports in the US at a time when safety and security are paramount.”
Just last month, Liebherr announced the handover of a third STS crane to PSA Penn Terminals in the Port of Philadelphia.
