A new all-water container service from Wan Hai Lines looks to directly connect the Port of Philadelphia (PhilaPort) with Vietnam, China, and Taiwan.

The carrier recently announced the launch of its Asia America 9 (AA9) service. This weekly offering will first depart from Asia on 8 July and is expected to arrive at PhilaPort’s Packer Avenue Marine Terminal (PAMT) in August.

Shortly after, it is scheduled to call at Haiphong, Vietnam Shekou and Qingdao, China; and Kaohsiung, Taiwan.

According to Wan Hai, by calling at PhilaPort, it will provide clients with more service options, while also strengthening its current portfolio to better serve its customers’ needs.

“PhilaPort and the entire Philadelphia Port community are extremely excited about this new service,” said Jeff Theobald, Executive Director & CEO of PhilaPort.

“Wan Hai, with this new call, rounds out our portfolio of direct ocean carrier services. We now have direct service with the entire world.”

Christopher Dillon, President of the World Trade Association of Philadelphia, added: “Because PAMT does such a great job, we are really looking forward to having a Philly call for an Asian service.”

Earlier this year, PhilaPort also welcomed the maiden call of MSC’s Scan Baltic service.

On 14 April, the container ship M/V Cornelia docked at the port as part of the weekly service which provides US shippers with direct connections to Bremerhaven, Germany, Gothenburg, Sweden, and Lithuania.

The full port rotation is as follows: Klaipeda (Lithuania) – Gdynia (Poland) – Goteborg (Sweden) – Bremerhaven (Germany) – New York (US) – Philadelphia (US) – Norfolk (US) – Klaipeda.
