Konecranes has delivered two STS cranes to the Port of Oslo that are unlike anything they’ve manufactured before.

Oslo Sjursoya Container Terminal, located near densely populated areas in Oslo, scrutinised every aspect of the cranes to ensure minimal impact on the community.

Included in these considerations were the lighting options. Due to the high eco-efficiency, LED technology was selected.

LED decreases energy consumption by up to 70% on STS cranes which, not only minimises cost, but decreases the CO2 emissions and overall environmental impact.

Several LED lighting companies were reviewed, and Phoenix was ultimately chosen to illuminate the trollies, girders, walkways and interior machine houses.

The floodlighting for the cranes’ exterior applications was especially important. The optical control offered by Phoenix EcoMods allowed Konecranes to meet the specification while minimising energy usage and light pollution.

Juha Aatola, Konecranes General Manager of STS Cranes, said: “Hand-over is complete and these STS cranes are on track to be the most silent and eco-efficient cranes of this type in the world. Time will tell, but I’m confident it will prove to be so.”

The STS cranes are now in operation at the Port of Oslo.
