Konecranes, a provider of smart lifting solutions for the ports and terminals sector, has introduced the 11-ton empty container handler, its latest addition to a range of “versatile lift trucks”.
Described by the company as a “No Limitations Empty Container Handler”, the machine uses an 11-ton telescopic side lift spreader from ELME to allow two empty containers to be handled simultaneously.
According to a statement, the equipment is specially designed for heavy-duty double handling applications and, as a result, is less sensitive to “eccentric loading”. This includes reefer containers with aligned refrigerators, two of which can also be handled at the same time.

Other features of the empty container handler include a hydraulic powered pile slope, which makes it easier to attach containers from the side, and a lighter and more robust design for extended uptime and reduced maintenance.
The equipment is also equipped with Konecranes services such as TRUCONNECT, tracking the usage of connected lift trucks with real time data, and Power Drive, a solution that is said to reduce fuel consumption and carbon emissions by up to 15%.

Håkan Andersson, Product Manager of Konecranes Lift Trucks, commented: “This is also the first lift truck to use Smart Lift, an automatic height positioning system for empty container handlers. Driver stress will reduce and that will greatly improve efficiency.”
Patrik Lundbäck, Director of Sales and Distribution at Konecranes Lift Trucks, added: “We’ve seen an increase in demand for empty handlers with double handling and 11-ton capacity, especially from countries that export a lot of fruit in reefer containers.
“This truck’s ability to lift offset loads means increased productivity for operators, as it can handle any type of empty container.”
