Konecranes, a provider of smart port solutions, has delivered 13 reachstackers to Ethiopian Shipping and Logistics Services Enterprise (ESLSE), the majority of which will be implemented at Modjo Port & Terminal.

As Ethiopia’s main dry port, which handles most of the nation’s trade, Modjo received 10 of the 13 units, while smaller inland terminals in Kaliti, Mekelle and Kombolcha all received one reachstacker each.

The machines have a lifting capacity of 45 tons and will be used to move 20-foot and 40-foot containers.

In addition to this, each reachstacker delivered features a smart MD4 display and multifunctional joystick, enabling easier operations for workers using the equipment.

According to a statement, the improved ease of use and high lifting capacity of the reachstackers will combine to boost the efficiency and productivity of Ethiopian trade.

Ethiopia is currently one of the fastest growing economies in Africa, and ESLSE is supporting this expansion by building more inland terminals.

ESLSE’s latest order of Konecranes equipment builds on a relationship established by the two organizations in 2014, when Konecranes delivered 23 forklift trucks to Ethiopia.

Roba Megerssa, CEO of ESLSE, said: “We’re very pleased to update our lift truck fleet with the latest generation of Konecranes reach stackers, and are confident that this new equipment will help us improve our operations as we support the growth of the Ethiopian economy.”

Winfried Lux, Regional Manager for IMEA at Konecranes Lift Trucks, added: “Konecranes thanks ESLSE for their trust in our equipment and our company.

“We’re glad to be involved in the development of the Ethiopian shipping hubs and we’re looking forward to continuing our fruitful cooperation long into the future.”
