Konecranes has appointed Anders Svensson as its new President and CEO following the cancelled merger with Cargotec.

Anders Svensson, currently President of the Sandvik Rock Processing Solutions Business Area, will assume his role at the latest on 7 December; until then Konecranes CFO Teo Ottola will continue to act as the Interim CEO.

Prior to his current role, he has held various leadership positions within Sandvik since 2008, including President, Crushing and Screening Division; President, Customer Services and SVP Global Sales, Sandvik Construction as well as Chief Purchasing Officer, Sandvik Construction and Sandvik Mining.

“The Konecranes Board of Directors initiated an international search process for a new President and CEO in March immediately after the planned merger with Cargotec was cancelled,” said Christoph Vitzthum, Chairman of Konecranes’ Board of Directors.

“I am very pleased to announce the appointment of Anders Svensson as President and CEO of Konecranes. He has a convincing track-record of delivering profitable growth and experience of working globally.

“With his results-driven and engaging approach, strong customer focus and people skills, he is well equipped to lead Konecranes.

“I am honoured and excited to have the opportunity to lead Konecranes, a global industry leader known for its unique service and equipment offering and great people,” commented Anders Svensson.

“This is an exciting time to join the company, as Konecranes, with its leading technology and digital and automation capabilities, is in a unique position to support customers to further improve the safety, productivity, and sustainability of their operations.”

Konecranes will supply 12 electric Rubber-Tired Gantry (RTG) cranes to the South Florida Container (SFCT), located at the Port of Miami.

The terminal, which provides local access to key Latin American and Asian trade routes, booked the order in May 2022 for delivery in July 2023.
