Kalmar, a part of Cargotec Corporation, has announced that three of its eco reachstackers, one Gloria reachstacker and three empty container handlers have been delivered to Dutch terminal operator Ter Haak Group.

The equipment, which has arrived at Ter Haak’s Container Stevedoring IJmuiden (CSY) and Container Service Amsterdam (CSA) terminals, is expected to improve the sustainability of the company’s operations.

According to a statement, environmental performance is high on the agenda of Ter Haak, as demonstrated by its decision to create the Port of Amsterdam’s largest sunroof to generate energy for CSA and surrounding companies.

The CSA deep-sea terminal was established over 24 years ago and mainly handles containers. Following an agreement with Kalmar, the facility has received three empty container handlers and three eco reachstackers.

Compared to older machines, the Kalmar Eco Reachstacker can reduce fuel consumption by up to 40%, as well as cutting fuel costs and emissions.

This part of the deal also includes a full-service contract to increase CSA’s capacity and eco-efficiency.

For CSY Haringhaven, Kalmar has delivered a specially adapted Kalmar Gloria reachstacker for loading and unloading cargo from barges.

The four-deep reach of this machine saves time for the terminal, as it does not require the vessel to turn around for the last row of cargo to be unloaded.

Richard Ter Haak, CEO of Ter Haak Group, commented: “Continuously improving the eco-efficiency of our operations through investment in modern, fuel-efficient equipment is a major focus for us.

“In this regard, the solutions offered by Kalmar matched our needs perfectly. We have been working with Kalmar equipment for several years and appreciate its high quality and reliability.”
