Kalmar has signed two separate orders with SSA Marine to deliver 28 Ottawa T2 terminal tractors for terminals in Panama and Mexico.

Booked as part of Cargotec’s 2021 Q1 order intake, 14 machines will be operated at the Manzanillo International Terminal (MIT) in Colón, Panama.

The second agreement, completed via local partner Tracsa will send 14 machines to be operated by SSA Mexico in the Port of Manzanillo in Colima, Mexico.

Delivery will take place during Q3 of 2021.

Alexander Rojas, Maintenance Manager, MIT, said, “The Kalmar Ottawa T2 offers everything we need in terms of performance, productivity and safety, making it the ideal choice for expanding our fleet at MIT.

“Our relationship with the Kalmar team has always been excellent, and we are eagerly awaiting the arrival of these latest-generation machines.”

The new terminal tractors will be used to transport containers from the quay to the yard at MIT and Colima, both of which are RTG terminals.

SSA Marine, which already owns and operates 36 Kalmar Ottawa T2 terminal tractors, 24 at Colima, and 12 at MIT, is in the process of adding more terminal tractors to its fleet.

Nestor Olmos, Maintenance Manager, SSA Mexico, said, “Kalmar and their local partner Tracsa have worked closely with us at every stage of the selection and specification process to ensure we have all the support we need.

Just as with our previous order for 24 machines of the same type, one of the biggest influencing factors for us was Kalmar’s ability to manufacture and deliver the units to us.”

Eduardo Prat, Vice President, Latin America, Kalmar, added, “Our relationship with SSA Marine is a true partnership, and we are very pleased that they have again chosen the Kalmar Ottawa T2 to address their needs.”
